When it comes to shooting, I really like to control my light. Usually that means, setting up a bunch of lights, metering against my ambient, and going from there. However, when it came to the NYCBMC (NYC Beard & Moustache Championship) I did something a little different. I wanted to go into this preliminary contest with a more documentary style, and so shot on camera flash. I wanted it to be a nice addition to the formal portraits I already had of the 2007 competition, and informal shots I had of the parades that lead up to it. All in all, I’m happy with the results.
